A few days ago, I obtained my certification as a Coach with Co-Active Training Institute. I’m writing this as I feel there is still a big misunderstanding of the term ‘Coach’.
Nowadays, the term ‘Coach’ it is used by many people although some of them have no training or professional experience or didn’t go through a certification process.
A certified coach is one that has completed the formalised training programmes accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF) such as the Co-Active Training Institute (CTI), the golden star training in the coaching industry and the training that I proudly completed. A certification process means more than 200h of training, minimum 100h of proven coaching experience with clients, participating in 6h of individual supervision and 4.5h of group supervision sessions, being coached and mentored by a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach for 6 to 12h, pass an oral exam demonstrating the ability to be a coach in accordance with Co-Active and the International Coach Federation.
A Certified Professional Co-Active Coach is one who demonstrated during this certification process that he/she is able to:
come with an unbiased and non-judgemental attitude.
skillfully coach any person on any topic, navigate conflict, design responses and recover from triggered states.
frame powerful questions that evoke conversations that cultivate trust, catalyze self-discovery, enhance insight, and inspire movement into bold action.
create a coaching space that is safe, transparent and build a trust based relationship with the client.
The Co-Active Coaching model provides a holistic framework for you, so as a client you can experience the infinite possibilities of career and life. In the Co-Active model, we believe people are naturally creative, resourceful, and whole. You know best what you need for yourself. This type of coaching gets you outside your comfort zone, exploring your own potential and becoming aware of the impact you’re having around you.
On top of this Certification, I also bring to the table 17 years of international experience as a Psychologist, HR Consultant, Workshop facilitator. During all this time I helped candidates, employees and clients to uncover their full potential while transitioning changes in their lives.
Investing some time in finding a certified coach allows you, as a client, to filter amongst those coaches who do this ‘informally’ and those who have really dedicated themselves to being professional coaches.
Take the time you need to meet different coaches before you find the perfect fit for you.
Coaching is most effective when the coach-client relationship is strong, open and based on trust. That means finding someone whom you personally find credible, resourceful, and empathetic with your situation.
